Matt stowed his bike in the Church's storage area and then proceeded back out to the parking lot to socialize before the meeting began. It was Wednesday night a few weeks after Camp had ended, and the last few weeks had given him much needed opportunity for rest.
He straightened out his uniform as he looked around the parking lot of the Church in the Acres. Almost immediately, he noticed something amiss.
Matt went over to his father, who was getting out of his car. Matt had taken his bike only because his father had to leave shortly for a different meeting. "What are all of these Girl Scouts doing here?" he asked.
"Remember I told you that a Girl Scout troop had moved to the Church?" his father reminded him.
"When did you say that?"
"Last night."
"No you didn't."
His father gave him a funny look which said, Yes I did. But Matt wasn't paying his father much attention anymore as something else had caught his eye. It was a woman, one of the Girl Scout leaders.
She had a slender figure that was quite well proportioned, well-tanned skin, and a face with elegantly sculpted features. Her eyes burned with a fiery competence and spoke of a deep intelligence. Framing her face was a mane of red hair which was presently braided into a tight bun upon which sat a Girl Scout hat. She was wearing a Girl Scout leader's uniform, not a bikini, but Matt had no trouble remembering where he had seen her before.
Aaron and Bill Hughes were coming up to him, and Matt started towards them, keeping his eyes discretely on the Girl Scout leader.
"We've got Girl Scouts," Aaron said.
"I'd noticed," Matt almost absently replied.
"What is it?" Bill asked.
"That woman," Matt said. "I don't believe it. It's her."
"Her?" Billy Gelinas asked, walking over.
"Her who?" Mike asked, also walking over.
"You don't mean her, do you?" Aaron asked, doubtful. "That Girl Scout leader you saw once up at Moses and spent the rest of the week dreaming about?"
"That's the one," Matt said, "but what's she doing here?"
"Somehow I doubt she begged her troop to pick up and move here so that she could be close to you," Mike said.
"What was it she called you?" Billy asked.
"I think it was, 'Mr. Testosterone,'" Bill said.
"Ah, yes that was it," Billy said.
Matt looked back at her. She was sitting on the bottom step of the stairs that lead up to the Church's kitchen, talking with two attractive twin girls. Matt started walking towards the women, and Aaron followed.
Matt came to a stop about a yard away. The Girl Scout leader looked up at him, blinking in surprise.
"Um, hello," Matt said. "I don't know if you remember me or not. I'm Matt. Matt Atanian."
The woman frowned. "Oh, I remember you. Mr. Testosterone from the Boy Scout camp. Just my luck that we should meet again," she sarcastically said. In the distance a crack of thunder roared.
One of the twins laughed. The other one looked at her sister and said, "Be nice, Nicole."
"I see you do remember me," Matt said. "There goes my hopes for a fresh start."
"Why don't you go away so I can get some fresh air?" the Girl Scout leader harshly said.
Matt wasn't stupid, so he and Aaron turned and walked away. They stopped and sat on the large logs that lined the back of the parking lot.
A few moments later, one of the twins had joined them.
"I'm sorry about my sisters," she said. "Nicole, there's no excuse for, but my older sister, Sarah, isn't as bad as she seems. She just doesn't like guys too much since her last boyfriend. He was kind of a jerk and she hasn't gotten over it yet."
Matt looked at the young woman with an odd look on his face, not having expected to receive so much information. Aaron did likewise.
The Girl Scout smiled. Her face lit up with a kind warmth. "I'm Kirstin Porter."
"I'm Matthew Atanian, and my good friend here is Aaron Abdowmassy. It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Hi," Aaron said. He shook Kirstin's hand.
"You're interested in my sister," Kirstin asked Matt, "why?"
"I don't know," Matt said. "It just hit me when I first saw her. I'd like to think that I'm above being interested in someone only because of their appearance, so I'm sure there's more to it than that."
"Although you'll admit you like her appearance?" Kirstin asked.
"Direct, aren't you?" Matt asked.
"Sometimes," Kirstin admitted. She smiled again, and Matt could sense no malevolence in her.
A thought suddenly occurred to Matt. "You want to try and fix your older sister up with someone, don't you?"
"You're smart," Kirstin said, "that's definitely a plus. What exactly happened up at that Boy Scout camp between you and her?"
Matt told her.
"That's it?" Kirstin asked. "That's my sister, making mountains out of mole hills. She has been crabby ever since the break up with Rodney a few months ago."
"And you want to help your sister get back to her old jubilant self?" Matt asked.
Again, Kirstin smiled. "That's it," she honestly said, "and I think you might be just the one to help."
Now Matt smiled. That was when he noticed that Sarah was coming in their direction.
"I think you should make a swift retreat," Kirstin advised him. Matt took her advice, but Aaron lingered.
"So," he said, "I'm Aaron."
"So your friend Matt said," Kirstin reminded him. "I'm Kirstin."
"So you said," Aaron responded. Again they shook hands. Kirstin sat on the log beside Aaron.
"You and Matt are good friends?"
"I suppose," Aaron said.
"Tell me honestly, he's not a jerk, is he?"
"He isn't."
Sarah was standing in the middle of the parking lot, half way between where she had been sitting and where Aaron and Kirstin were sitting.
"Kirstin," she shouted, "the meeting's about to start."
Aaron noticed Boy Scouts filing into the building and realized that his meeting was about to start as well. He stood, and Kirstin followed suit.
"Walk me inside?" she asked him. He nodded.
The two of them walked into the back door of the church in silence, glancing at one another occasionally when the other wasn't looking. Once inside, Aaron had to take a right to go upstairs to Walker Hall while Kirstin had to go straight to one of the rooms on the first floor.
Kirstin smiled at him as he turned towards the stairs. "I'll see you later?" she asked.
Aaron smiled back. "Sure."
Aaron discretely absented himself from the inter-patrol activity and went over to Matt. "What do you think?" He asked him.
"I don't know," Matt responded. "This certainly is an unusual situation, and that Nicole certainly seems an unusual person." He laughed. "Not that I'd call us usual, even before the trip to China."
Aaron laughed in response. "I know what you mean."
"I think that Kirstin might be interested in you."
"You think so?"
Matt nodded.
"So I wasn't just imagining things," Aaron responded. "She certainly seems nice."
Matt and Aaron leaned against the wall and contemplated their situations. Matt found himself interested in a woman who had given him no indication that she was interested in him. Indeed, he had gotten the impression that she thought of him as scum that she needed to wipe off of her shoes. However, the woman's sister seemed to think that he was exactly what her sister needed.
Aaron, meanwhile, had gotten the impression that the woman's sister was interested in him. Matt had also sensed this, so Aaron didn't feel that he was imagining things. She certainly was appealing, Aaron thought.
The game had reached an end and Billy was telling the Troop to fall into formation for closing. Beside Billy stood Mike, both in front of the table at the front of the room, and Matt went to stand on the steps behind the table that led up to the stage. Aaron also stood before the table, but off to one side, nether with Billy and Mike or with the patrols. Bill Hughes was with his patrol, making a fruitless effort in getting his patrol in order.
The scoutmaster, Bill Pruyne, made a few closing announcements, and one of the Patrols led the rest of the Troop in the Scout Oath. Then the Troop was dismissed.
Aaron rushed outside to catch his ride, as he knew his mom would be in a hurry. He came to an abrupt halt at the bottom of the stairs, however, when someone called out his name.
He was pleasantly surprised to see Kirstin Porter, holding out a piece of paper to him. He took it, and she turned and walked away, disappearing into a nearby room. He hastily unfolded the paper and looked at what was written inside.
He straightened out his uniform as he looked around the parking lot of the Church in the Acres. Almost immediately, he noticed something amiss.

Call Me!
Call Me!
A stupid grin appeared on his face as he continued outside. As he exited the building, he noticed that during the course of the meeting it had become rather cloudy out. He hoped that he could get home before any rain began.
He looked over to his mother's van and waved. For a moment, he thought he saw a figure hiding behind the large wooden platform that stood in the field behind the church like some forgotten piece of an unfinished wall. It must have just been his imagination, he thought, as he got into the van.
Mike and the Bills had also left by the time that Matt had gotten around to leaving. He closed the door of the storage area behind himself as he sat upon his bike.
Suddenly, it began to rain.
Matty cursed as she pulled on her jacket. She peddled over to the gate to the church's playground where she got off the bike again and made sure the book she'd brought was in a place where it would stay dry.
The door to the church opened, and Sarah walked out, followed by her sisters.
"Um, hi," Matty said.
"Hello," Sarah responded. She spotted Matty's uniform through the unbuttoned jacket. "You're with the Boy Scouts?" she asked.
"Yeah, I guess," Matty responded.
"You look familiar," Nicole said. "Have we met?"
"No," Matty responded. "Can't say that we have."
Sarah and Nicole hurried over to Sarah's car to get out of the rain, but Kirstin lagged behind. She had noticed something on Matty's uniform that her sisters hadn't. "Who are you?" she asked.
"Um, Matty Hayes."
"Sure that's not Matt Atanian? That's what it says on your nametag, and despite the fact that you're obviously a woman you do look a little like him."
From behind the wooden platform out in the field, a lone figure watched the going-ons outside of the church. Although the rain bothered him little, he pulled the robes he wore a little tighter about himself.
"So those are the latest victims of the Jusenkoy curse," the man said quietly. "Someday will come the time when I must reveal myself to them, but that day is not today."
The man turned and walked away, the small ornamental bell hanging from his belt jingling.

To be continued...
Certain aspects of this series are inspired by Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2.
All characters (except for the Porter sisters and the mysterious man at the end of the story) and locations are based on real persons and locations.
This story was written without the consent of the Boy Scouts of America, and in fact if they ever found out about these stories they'd probably arrange to have my body and soul sucked into a parallel plane of existence that is filled with unspeakable horrors and torments from which I will never escape.
Also in the Boy Scouts 1/2 series:
Boy Scouts 1/2, part 1: The Fateful Dip in the Springs
Boy Scouts 1/2, part 2: Stormy Weather at Camp Moses
Boy Scouts 1/2, part 3: Watergunfight at the Moses Coral
Boy Scouts 1/2, part 4: For the Love of the Red Haired Woman
Boy Scouts 1/2, part 5: Sunset on Another Summer

Notes from 2016
Hello, Matt here! How are you doing? Sorry it has been a while. I really must get back to writing someday soon. But, while you all wait for a new story, how about a previously thought lost early version of an old story?
So, what is this? This is my long lost original version of part 6, from before Aaron took what I wrote and re-wrote it himself. His rewrite nearly doubled the length of the story, and fleshed it out nicely, but the basics of the tale can still be found in this version.
I had long thought my original version was lost. I had no digital copy of it, and I didn't think any print outs of it remained, either. But in a recent move of residence, I happened to find a print out of it stashed away in the bottom of one of my drawers. And so, I thought, maybe it would be fun to make it available for public viewing for the very first time!
The tale above has dutifully been typed by me exactly as I had it back in the 90's, including any grammar errors that I may not have made today. The only alteration to the text above was to the surname of the character of Aaron, in line with 2012's policy of Abdowmassification.
There is one instance where, upon looking at it today, I am pretty sure I accidentally used the wrong character's name. Take a look at the following paragraph:

"I don't know," Matt responded. "This certainly is an unusual situation, and that Nicole certainly seems an unusual person." He laughed. "Not that I'd call us usual, even before the trip to China."
Since it has been (Wow!) over eighteen years since I wrote that paragraph, I am not sure if the Matt was supposed to be talking about Kirstin (who he and Aaron would have had the most personal interaction with at this point) or Sarah (who undoubtedly would have been the one most on Matt's mind). But for Nicole to be a person of interest in Matt and Aaron's conversation would make no sense at this point in the narrative!
A few notes on... well... on the notes. It is odd to see me using "1/2" instead of "½." for the part of the title that is read as, "one half." The exclusive use of the single character version of that fraction when typing the title "Boy Scouts ½" was a very early decision of mine, so to see anything that predates that decision is quite an oddity to me.
It seems my draft of part 6 was written prior to Mike completing part 5! Definitely before Mike decided to make the title be in Spanish, ha ha. And, it seems, I'd always intended there to be some revision. I think, though, at this point I probably intended that I might do it myself, before Aaron volunteered his own services.
The notes also included mention of, "Also by Matthew Atanian." For further details on John Smith and Spockman Adventures, see the notes associated with the story Kenny's Laboratory: Winning the Doorprise. What are the other series mentioned? Well, I have only the vaguest memories of Al's Amazing After A-Bomb Adventures. What do I mean by vague? I mean, "Well, I remember that was a title of a thing I did." Also, "series" may have been a strong word for Al's Amazing After A-Bomb Adventures. I'm not sure if I got much past a part one or two. As for Heir to the Empire? No bloody clue. I don't remember that in the slightest. I'm guessing I ripped off, er, I mean, lovingly borrowed the title from a certain Timothy Zahn novel. But beyond that, I haven't the foggiest. I didn't even remember ever doing anything with that title. Seeing it listed here was a complete surprise!
Anyway, that's about all for now. Hopefully I'll get off my proverbial arse and get my creative juices flowing in the not too distant future to get some new stories written for you!
See you then!
