Well, I ran out of packing tape, so I took some time to, as I was hoping to be able to do, put up Perspectives III. Enjoy!

I'd really like to get Boy Scouts ½, part 13 online... But the next few Perspectives stories do come first in chronology... and I've been wanting to show Perspectives some more love, anyway. So here's Jason Bertovich's Perspectives from the Food Court II: The Least You Could Do.
I anticipate an occupied day... but if time allows, maybe I'll whip up the next one later. If not today, then tomorrow! Probably. As I said in yesterday's post, if you ever notice any I missed, please let me know. But hopefully I got them all! And I shall try to catch them all in the rest of the existing stories as I restore them to the wonderful world of the internet. (And then, someday, I shall write whole new stories with original Abdowmassy action!)
Hello, all!
Well, an hour or so ago I returned home from Sare's wake. I am pleased to say that there were many in attendance, and a decent portion were those that new him from his time as a chef at Moses. Those that new him, loved him and it showed. (Just to give people an idea of the sort of gentleman Sare was, think of a black version of The Old Man from Pawn Stars, who happens to be a chef rather then a pawn broker. Anyone who has ever watched Pawn Staws knows that The Old Man is awesome. So was Sare.) Anyway, I saw some familiar faces that I hadn't seen for years, most notably as far as readers of these stories would be concerned: Jim Anderson, his father (and former Moses camp ranger) Gary, and of course Sare's son and the other Moses chef, Kenny. After coming home, as I was feeling somewhat nostalgic for the past I wanted to get another story online. Part 12: A Night of Magic finishes up the current story line that had sort of been continuing (with some threads within ending and others beginning) since part 6. Enjoy it, if you dare! Finally, I am pretty sure I have successfully Abdowmassified parts 6 - 11. (If anyone should happen to see any instances of the (censored) former name in those stories, please let me know so I can fix them!) Sorry for the lack of updates for a wee bit. More stories will be coming soon! But not yet today. Instead, I have to relate some news that... well... not sure how excatly I feel about it.
So shortly after my last update, on a whim I tried Googling a few of the lads I'd lost touch with over the years. No luck on Mike, I fear, other then a small lead I may follow up on one of these days. But it looked like I was able to find Aaron! So I tried contacting him... and promptly got back a message asking me to kindly no longer use his real name in association with Boy Scouts ½. He claimed no ill will, and said it was because he (and his brothers) have had issues with search engine optimization because of his last name being rather promanant in Boy Scouts ½. I can sort of understand that... and, well, it is his last name, so it is a request he is entitled to make. If Aaron was just a character... well, it would still be a wierd change for me to make, but in a way that I would feel less... well, reluctant about, I suppose. But since Aaron is a credited author in the series, it feels distinctly wrong to not have him properly credited for his work. But again, it is his name. And it is his credit he is asking to have removed. So while it feels wrong to me, I suppose no one is actually being wronged. Aaron also had the distinction of being the only real life based character whose surname apeared in a title to one of the stories, and it was a story that he co-wrote and titled. But... I suppose it will have to be changed. Feels not quite kosher to me... but I shall do as requested. And so, the character formerly known as (censored) gets a new name. What is it? Well, "Aaron," isn't exactly a unique first name, so I never considered changing that. It was just the surname that was a cause for concern. I didn't want a drastic change if possible, so after a bit of back and fourth consultation with Aaron (where he thought my first alternative suggestion was actually still a bit too close to reality) we came up with a compromise that is phonetically similar to the real Aaron's name, but is different enough in pronunciation and spelling to not interfere with the real Aaron as far as search engines are concerned. Thus, he shall hencefourth be known as, "Aaron Abdowmassy." I will admit that this change is not 100% implemented as of yet. (Life has had me a bit busy the last few days, and this is the first chance I've had to do anything related to this website for a bit.) Thus far, I have only altered his surname in entries on this blog; and on the Boy Scouts ½ index page, changing the authorship credits and the offending story title. In any stories put online from this point forward, the new name will be used. And as time allows, hopefully within a short span, his name will be altered within the stories already up on the website. So, I bid a sad farewell to Aaron (censored), but at the same time I welcome the suspiciously similar and completely ficticious character of Aaron Abdowmassy (who, dispite being fictional, somehow managed to get some authorship credit on a few stories) to Boy Scouts ½. Back soon with some more restored stories! Two new stories are up!
The first is part 11, Matty's New Wardrobe? Shopping Spree from Hell, written by yours truely with invaluable assistance from a friend of mine, Carolyn Ede. (Sadly, like many others who have contributed to these writings, I've lost touch with Carolyn over the years... but would love to renew contact. Carolyn, should you by some chance of fate read this, drop me a line!) That story was the direct inspiration for my pal Jason Bertovich (ironically, as he is one of BS½'s long distance contributers, not living in Holyoke -- or even in Massachusetts -- as portrayed within the fiction, one of the few contributers I do still have contact with) to create what originally seemed like a one shot side story, but would soon become BS½'s first full-blown spin-off! So I also have prepared for you the first in that series, Jason's Perspectives from the Food Court. Finally, a bit of sad news. I learned today of the passing, in real life, of a person who has made an apearance (albeit, a brief, unspeaking cameo in part 13) in Boy Scouts ½. This is, to the best of my recolection, the first time this has happened. Not a milestone I was looking forward to, however. So, I would like to dedicate today's update to the memory of former Camp Moses chef extraordinaire, inventer of the (in)famous Chicken à la Sare, and all around great guy, Sare Healy. Rest in peace, sir, and I am sure your cooking will be a big hit in heaven. I've added a forum to the website! This blog will still be maintained as a place to list updates to the website, but anyone wishing to have discussions about anything from the stories (or, I suppose, to take advantage of the obligatory, "Off Topic," section) may do so there.
Part 9: Behind the Adult Conspiracy, by Michael D. Quadrozzi. Enjoy!
Here's two more for you.
Part 7: Sleep-Over at the Abdowmassy Residence (with Aaron Abdowmassy) Part 8: Election Night at 192 (Michael D. Quadrozzi) Enjoy! |
