Enjoy!
Also, just a quick note that the Timeline page has been further updated to account for the plans afoot for Perspectives.

Right on the tail of this website's first NEW new story, another new piece: Not a full story in and of itself, but a prologue to the next... er, first... er, newest series of Jason Bertovich's Perspectives stories: The Definitive Perspective Edition -Prologue-, giving you a taste of what will be coming soon in the Perspectives series.
Enjoy! Also, just a quick note that the Timeline page has been further updated to account for the plans afoot for Perspectives.

Well, the first if you don't count, "The Worst Ranma ½ Fanfic Ever," ha ha.
Anyway, presented for your reading enjoyment is Boy Scouts ½ in Japan, part 5: An American Otaku in Akihabara, by yours truly. My recent visit to the land of Jason Bertovich along with the recent completion of the website restoration process inspired me, and thus the initial storyline of the "in Japan" series is finally completed. ('Twas a nice visit, and I look forward to reciprocating hosting duties someday... Jason can finally actually visit the Holyoke Mall!) On another note, for those who care about such things, I figured I should mention that I made a few adjustments to the Timeline page, specifically concerning Perspectives IX and X. Previously, I had placed them both after Boy Scouts ½, part 30. But then I realized that Perspectives IX had the Porters mailing out something to which they receive responses in Boy Scouts ½, part 24, thus placing Perspectives IX before the storyline which part 24 is a part of. Then I noticed the date on the invitation Jason receives in the beginning of Perspectives X was a late June date, which would place the event Jason was being invited to prior to Troop 192's summer camp excursion, and thus Perspectives X was moved earlier in the timeline to be before Boy Scouts ½, part 26. (Technically, Perspectives X begins right where IX ends, but there is a time jump in the story to the aforementioned event Jason was invited to, and that is where the meat of the story takes place, so I used that event as the anchor for placement on the timeline.) Hope you enjoy the new story! Talk to you again, soon! What the heck, here's another story: Perspectives IX: Three Girls, a Guy, and a Coffee House. There is one more vintage Perspectives story to go... except...
Well, for this story I only have a raw version as originally presented to me by Jason way back in the day... so it will take more formatting work to get it back online and I may need to wait to get some input from Jason on a few things. Also, while I have Jason's post story notes for it, any notes I undoubtedly had are lost. So this last vintage Perspectives will be coming... but I may jump ahead a wee bit and do some BS½ in Japan first. But this story will be presented no later then the final update of the restoration, and before any truly new Boy Scouts ½ production. Patience, Perspectives fans! I plan on doing a bunch of updating today. I've gotten two things done thus far.
The first concerns the two Christmas tales, Boy Scouts ½, part 13 and Perspectives VI. The two stories take place in a very overlapping fashion, and anyone who has ever wondered what it might be like to read them all as one continuous narrative... well, wonder no more! The second thing I've done thus far: I'd noticed on the History page that there were missing about a year's worth of update notes, from the end of the Geocities era. I have since located these notes and restored them. This begins with the 6 February 2000 note, which is a rather... well... notable one, as it details the end of the "John Smith Publishing, Inkorportaed" website, and subsequent birth of the "Boy Scouts ½ Universe" website! Anyway, I must now take my beloved to lunch. I'll be back later with some more stories for you! Hope to get at least two, maybe three more for you today. And my small contribution to the Perspectives lore (if you don't count providing a Universe for it to exist in) is complete. Perspectives VIII is back online!
I don't, I'll admit, have handy digital copies of Perspectives IX or X... but since Jason wrote those ones, I'm sure he'll have something I can use somewhere. ^_^ Of course, if I stick to trying to restore the stories in a somewhat chronological order, it'd be a little while until I get to them, anyway. Be back soon with the Weebly website premere of Kenny's Laboratory! Here you go, folks. The results of a few days of painstaking retyping to bring you the next story! I am glad to get this done, and hopefully won't have to do something like it again! Enjoy, folks!
I am trying to take a roughly chronological aproach to the restoration of the stories. For the most part, this follows publication order. But around Christmastime (story-wise) is when things start to get a bit murky.
Basically, the next major story that should go up is the next Perspectives story, which is set at the exact same time as Boy Scouts ½ part 13, being one of only two occasions I can think of (the other being the first Perspectives From the Food Court) where the title isn't just what TV Tropes refers to as an Artifact Title. Perspectives VI is a story that is portraying events that happen concurrently with a story from the main series, but from the perspective of a different group of characters. (At least with the sixth one, I dropped the, "From the Food Court," part, which had by that point become a major Artifact Title, I suppose making Perspectives simultaniously an example and a subversion. I've been reading too much TV Tropes!) But before that... there is one other Perspectives story that should have been up. Unfortunately, I didn't have a copy of it. And... much like the recent Anime Deathmatch troubles... it wasn't on the archived version of the original site. And... even though his name is in the bleedin' title, as he wasn't this story's author and hadn't previously hosted a slightly different version of it elsewhere, Jason didn't have a copy of it, either. What was I to do? I didn't want this story to go the way of so many 60's Doctor Who episodes! Especially when Jason revealed that it would actually be helpful for him to re-read it as a part of whatever plans he has cooking for the new Perspectives he is working on! Then I remembered... The fabled lost original version of this website that was on Tripod actually wasn't the original version of this website! There was a random total loss of the website once before (fortunately when the site was only a few years old, and not over a decade, so restoration was a bit simpler), and that original original, hosted on Geocities from 1998 - 1999... This story was old enough, if I could find an archived version of that site, I might just find this story! And so here it is, I present to you William Hughes's Of Possible Futures: The Tale of Neko-chan and Bertovich. Based on its content, this tale was likely written before or around the same time as Perspectives III, and would have been made a part of the website no later then prior to Perspectives V. Reading it again for the first time in years... There is a certain aspect of this story that is somewhat amusing in retrospect, but you'd have to know about the real Hughes to know what aspect that is. I could elaborate, but it is an aspect that will eventually be worked into the BS½ canon, so... As River Song is fond of saying, "Spoilers!" If I continue trying to re-present the stories chronologically (and I see no reason I would do otherwise) I'll be back soonish with Perspectives, Byte II. (I'm a week away from my move and have much still to do, however, so there may be a few delays!) After that, we would finally get to the second BS½ spin-off, Kenny's Laboratory! After that, we should finally be returning to the main series. Ta ta for now! The final story in Jason Bertovich's original Perspectives from the Food Court storyline, part V: The Final Perspective, is restored to online goodness. Enjoy it, folks! (And not to imply quantity over quality, as there is definitely quality here, but I should note that this is one of the -- if not the -- longest stories in the BS½ canon. So there is plenty to enjoy!)
Long day... but wanted to update site... Perspectives IV... Jason Bertovich... enjoy... squirrel jail... justice... good night... zzzzzzzzzzz...........................
Well, I ran out of packing tape, so I took some time to, as I was hoping to be able to do, put up Perspectives III. Enjoy!
And... I just found out that I got a parking ticket on my car that is in front of my own house... Grumble, grumble... glad I am moving soon... grumble, grumble... |
